Japanese hardcore punk pioneers G.I.S.M. have influenced the farthest corners of underground music, shaping the look, sound and approach of generations of punk, hardcore, metal and other extreme music for the past 40 years band. If the metal/punk sound of POISON IDEA\’s mid- to late-period recordings were not enough proof of this influence, the back cover of 1987\’s War All The Time, proudly displaying Jerry A\’s leather vest with the G.I.S.M The G.I.S.M. logo proudly adorns Jerry A.\’s leather vest on the back jacket of 1987\’s War All The Time. Upon learning of the passing of G.I.S.M.\’s visionary frontman and creative architect SAKEVI YOKOYAMA on August 24, 2023, POISON IDEA and TKO felt compelled to honor the monumental legacy left behind after this loss P.I.\’s. This EP, the first collection of G.I.S.M. covers from P.I.\’s 1993 We Must Burn sessions, is an ode to the incomparable and uncompromising spirit of SAKEVI and G.I.S.M. “Endless Blockades For The Pussyfooter” is included as an unreleased mix that differs from the version on We Must Burn, while “Death, Agonies & Screams” is a version of POISON IDEA\’s last album, Religion & Politics EP, which is the same version that appeared on POISON IDEA\’s posthumous Religion & Politics EP. From the artwork and layout to the recording, “Tribute To G.I.S.M.” is exactly what it sounds like: a sincere tribute to the inestimable and immortal legacy of SAKEVI YOKOYAMA, one of the most fearless and singular voices in punk music.
