MASTERPEACE_OVERCOME THE LIMITS CD■■ Paper jacket fold-out 4PCD

Paper-jacketed, double-folded 4PCD

The band’s intense band activities and constant releases correlate with their music, as if they embody their life’s work, and they have been asking what hardcore is and what punk is not. What is punk? What is Rock? What is music? What is life? What is love? This EP is filled with their attitude and attitude in the year 2022, as they roll forward with a sense of information overload, repeating such questions and answers to themselves endlessly.
Although it may sound direct at first listen, if you follow the songs, you will soon understand that it is not just a straightforward expression. It is clear that the songs are directed straight at the theme of each song, but the burst of emotion is sure to hit someone or something somewhere, and become twisted and distorted. However, the strong love and hate for self and others that seem so painful are always contradictory, yet compatible. This gradation of emotions that is not merely a choice between black and white is the most attractive thing about MASTERPEACE, and if we were to describe them as human-like in the vividness of their colors and the chaos that occurs when they throw even the dullest of colors onto their palette, we might say that this is precisely what they are. I am strangely convinced that this may be exactly the case.
Once upon a time, when I was still new to the world of hardcore and bands, the band’s vocalist, Gocchan, showed up drunk in the nightlife of Kyoto. This was before MASTERPEACE became the chanpuru style that it is today. Gocchan was wearing a beer mug in his hand, saying that his shoes had gone, and he was wearing a pair of izakaya sandals that were all over the place (laugh). This may not be unusual for those who know Gocchan well, but for me, who was only about 18 years old, it had quite an impact on me, and I thought he was a messed-up person. At the same time, however, it was also true that I had a strange admiration for his unmistakable and unprecedented appearance, and now that I think about it, I think this episode is a good description of MASTERPEACE.
The world view that seems to be a gotta-simmered version of Japanese rock history through various HARDCORE/PUNK filters, led by Gotchan, is unique, but the beats that further hasten the metallic R&R feel of the MOTORHEAD-like interpretation by the iron-clad musicians, the bashful, chiming phrases used frequently in each song, and the 80’s-era “Kick” sound of the band’s “MASTERPEACE” are all very much appreciated by the listeners. The use of Japanese words that strongly resonate with 80’s and 90’s JAPANESE HARDCORE and PAINTBOX, and the songs and choruses that have a good sense of being out of the ordinary based on these phrases are very unique. The result is very unique, including the fact that the artist does not care about such slight deviations.
The theme of each song ranges from the social to the very familiar, including the topic of the Corona virus, which was one of the major events of the past few years, and the third song, which is all about Mr. Tsubota of ROUGH ROCK POSSET, from the song title to everything else. From empty cans and graffiti in the back alleys to conflicts happening on the other side of the world, all seem to be connected in MASTERPEACE as one fine line. From the American Village to the world.
The artwork by Mr. DISACOF, which is both funny and poisonous, is a compilation of MASTERPEACE’s past works, and makes us feel that he is a good friend of MASTERPEACE. If you have time to wallow in your trivial life, you should listen to this album.
