British-born photographer Janet Beckman began her career at the dawn of punk rock with music magazines The Face and Melody Maker. She has photographed bands such as The Clash, The Specials, Boy George, and The Jam, as well as three Police album covers. He was also drawn to the underground hip-hop scene and moved to New York City in 1983, where he photographed pioneers such as Run DMC, Slick Rick, Salt-N-Pepa, Grand Master Flash, and LL Cool J.
