“PDX”!!!! The term “Portland” is now commonly used in the Japanese punk scene. Of course, there are many good bands and a unique scene in Portland, and there are also huge bands like POISON IDEA and TRAGEDY. HELLSHOCK is at the forefront of this scene in Portland, and is touring around the world. The band performed “PRISONER,” a dramatic number that is a new frontier for them, on a split 7″ EP titled “Bornout of darkness. The song is a hardcore number that skillfully incorporates the wabi-sabi of Japanese hardcore into their original dark metal hardcore sound, which of course was well received on their recent tour. In conjunction with their second visit to Japan, the band released “HELLSHOCK / Singles,” a collection of split 7″ EPs and singles, from HG fact, and “HELLSHOCK / Ghosts of the past,” a collection of their original demo material, from FREEDOM FIGHTER, two unique special compilation discs were released in rapid succession. The release of these two special compilation albums in quick succession was one of the reasons for the success of this tour. The two have already become familiar to PUNKS in Japan, and their characters are also one of the reasons why HELLSHOCK is so popular in Japan. Their third album “They wait for you still” was recorded at OUR HOUSE before the tour started. The album is a series of thrash numbers with a hint of EGDE inspired by the thrash metal taste of KREATOR and the bombastic metalcore sound of SACRILAGE, but through the filter of HELLSHOCK, it has been chemically transformed into a new shocking sound, and completed. What makes this album different from past albums is the quality of each and every song, the sense of ups and downs, and the presence of JOEL’s evil voice that stands out. The band introduced sound effects between all the songs, and while each song has various expressions and a diverse approach, there is also a profound and evil atmosphere that leaves a total afterimage. At any rate, this album is a turning point for HELLSHOCK, and a masterpiece of the highest quality ever! A must-listen for hardcore fans and metalcore enthusiasts alike!
