“Music is life, and life is not a business”-Iggy Pop The Stooges x Jim Jarmusch

The legend never ends.
A love letter from the genius Jim Jarmusch to the greatest rock and roll band of all time, The Stooges.

INTRODUCTION
Iggy Pop, the “Godfather of Punk,” whose extreme live performances have earned him the Japanese title of “Nasty Demon” in the past. And Jim Jarmusch, the eternal outsider who reigns supreme in the world of independent film. Jarmusch, who has been an ardent fan of Iggy’s band, The Stooges, has been using Iggy as an actor in “Dead Man” (’95) and “Coffee and Cigarettes” (’03), and the two have developed a close friendship. Now, Iggy himself has asked Jarmusch to make a film about the Stooges, and Jarmusch has completed his first documentary film in 20 years, chronicling the path of the legendary band, which had never been told on film before.

Michigan, USA, 1967. The Stooges were formed by brothers Iggy, Ron and Scott Ashton, and Dave Alexander. The Stooges created a one-of-a-kind style that destroyed the concept of rock music with its primitive and aggressive band sound, a fusion of experimentalism and minimalism that incorporated various elements such as psychedelic music and free jazz, and the extreme stage presence of vocalist Iggy, who was a member of the brother band MC5 The band led the Detroit rock scene together with their older brothers, the MC5. However, in 1974, the band spontaneously disappeared due to various problems. Critics called the band “vulgar and decadent,” and the band never gained a fair reputation. However, all subsequent punk rock bands, such as the Ramones and the Damned, were Stooges freaks, and later famous bands, such as Nirvana, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the White Stripes, professed their influence on the band. The band has been reevaluated as a starting point for punk and alternative rock, and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2010. What is it about the Stooges that attracts people so much?
In this film, Jarmusch chose to interview only the members and those who were really close to them. Although three members (Ron Ashton, Scott Ashton, and Steve McKay) passed away one after another during the eight years of production, they and their testimonies are forever etched in the film. inscribed in the film. Jarmusch’s love for The Stooges overflows in this full-length documentary. The Stooges, a band of isolation. The truth is now revealed.
