COFFIN DECK (Coffin Deck: a coffin-shaped skateboard) is the dream of skate punks all over the world. Coffin decks first appeared in the mid-80’s. The MISFITS and SAMHAIN models made by PLAN 9 are well-known, but they were designed to reproduce the coffin shape, which had the disadvantage of a broken tail. On the other hand, skateboard brands that focused on rideability released unique models such as SKULL SKATES’ DEAD GUYS and SIMS’ PHARAOH, which can be recognized by their names. (SKULL SKATES continues to release the DEAD GUYS series to this day.) One of the reasons why skaters stick to coffin-shaped boards is that they are obsessed with skateboarding, devoted to hardcore riding, and never knowing when death will come, they even liken the board they ride to a coffin and want to die on it. He even thinks that when he dies, he would like to die on a skateboard. As if to prove this, there is even a trick called “coffin,” in which the rider lays down on the skateboard and clasps his hands together on his chest.

The current skateboarding scene is becoming more and more diverse, and while Popsicle boards (with a contrasting nose and tail) are the mainstream in the market, various variant shapes are being released by various companies. Modern board design and cone cave technology have dramatically improved the ride quality of shaped boards from the 80s. The boards are designed by Mr. Kojima, owner of the famous skate store “FABRIC” in Yokohama, who has been riding skateboards since the 80’s and has been involved in many original shaping projects. The result is a rideable coffin deck that can be enjoyed in a wide range of styles from unique street style to transitional riding. The following is an explanation by Mr. Kojima.

I first learned about the Coffin shape from the Misfits model. It was a cool shape with a coffin-shaped deck and a Gaikotsu printed on it, but the base of the tail was too thin, and the wheels seemed to pop out and break easily. Since then, the Coffin shape has appeared on the skate scene from time to time. After skating for so many years, I suddenly thought, “I’m so ready to skate on a coffin!” and I really wanted to ride the Coffin, so I shaved the Coffin Shape in 2017, and since then I have adjusted it many times, and it is now a shape that can handle the current skate scene well enough.
And now we are back to the cool side of Coffin for a step and have come up with this shape again. It is 10″ wide, 31.5″ long, and has two track holes in the front and back for a 14.25″, 14.625″, or 15″ WB. This allows you to cruise on big wheels, pop the tail with the nose center of gravity, and even step on concrete pools.
Try different tracks and wheels to see which setting suits you best. The position that is most convenient for you is the correct one.
The answer is yours. Go on a journey of self-discovery with this deck.
