Many of the ORIGINAL HARDCORE PUNK generation and enthusiastic young punks of the next generation in Japan will surely recognize this patch.
It was on the left chest of Chaos UK/Maua, which appeared before our eyes in 1984 in the magazine “PUNK ON WAVE”,
The reason for this is that the mysterious clover patch was attached to the left chest of Chaos UK/Maua in “PUNK ON WAVE” magazine in 1984, which was unidentifiable at first glance.
And what on earth was this patch at that time? I was living in the countryside of Minokamo, so of course there was no way for me to know what this patch was,
I don’t know what it is, but it’s a really cool badge… AAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHH! I don’t know what it is, but it’s a really cool badge!
I later found out that it was a team patch of the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) circa 1970s.
Of course, when I was a member of the Kamo High School Rugby Club in my first year of high school, I had no idea about such a thing, and at that time, I was obsessed with DISCHARGE and CHAOTIC DISCORD.
When I was 19 years old, there was a punks who was one year older than me who made several (I heard 5 or 6) original replicas from a single magazine photo.
His name was “Nabe-chan. He was into UK Noise Core and maniacal hardcore at the time, and the mixtapes he made were great,
He was the guy who made the famous “perfect UK/DK DISORDER leather jacket” among us.

In the age of no Internet, he searched for embroiderers by foot and produced replica patches with a small war chest.
The “treasure” he received from Nabe-chan had nothing to do with the aforementioned football patch, but was purely based on his love for CHAOS UK, and was a symbol of Noise Core,
It came to me as a symbol of Noise Core.
The 1%13 is a condensed version of that punk/hardcore image and love of NOISE CORE, and this one patch is a clue to that,
Once again, referring to the original IRFU team patch, we have written a new clover as an original design, not a copy or replica,
We will strike again in the 21st century! The language of flowers in clover is love and revenge 、、、、” LOVE & REVENGE ” ！！！！
The size of the original patch was clearly too large for the average Japanese body size,

In fact, the design as it is is just a copy of a similar design, and when used, it strongly expresses the image of CHAOS UK cosplay and rugby jerseys, so we gave up on the idea of a design in this direction.
Instead, we decided to focus on “the utmost respect for the punk act that Nabe-chan actually challenged at a time when making things was much more difficult than it is now,
Using the replica size he had made as a springboard, 1%13 went into production, incorporating original ideas throughout.
As a result of his own experience using this size for many years, it has already been verified that this size can be easily worn with G-jans, leather jackets, army shirts, etc., and he is releasing this product with confidence.
For the production background, a factory in Japan was used to contribute to the domestic economy and ensure high quality.
BLACK BOOTS/Iwamae considered the direction of the embroidery thread to make it three-dimensional and modified the design so that the embroidery would not be a simple embroidery.
The embroidery of the name was done in an inconspicuous color (white-gray) so that it would be an original badge,
In the first sample, the logo was too assertive, ruining the original atmosphere, but in the second sample, we used the same thread as the back and made it so that it would not be noticeable at a glance.
The idea was to make the letters “1%13” appear little by little over time without destroying the image.
Now that it has been freed from the stereotypes, it is nothing but what it is in front of your eyes.
The clover with three leaves means the Trinity in Christianity.
Of course, 1%13 does not belong to any religion, so I will spare you the religious talk, but I will trace this to the heartwarming brotherhood of the three arrows of Motonaga Mori.
And if I were to venture a 1%13-style trinity, it would definitely be London, punk, and rock ‘n’ roll.
The meaning of the clovers in the design is briefly explained below,

White clover / Birth Flower on May 27th, the national flower of Ireland, Hundred Years Day, Navy Day, Afghanistan National Day
The red clover is used as an herb in Europe and the U.S. It contains a large amount of the health component, isoflavone, and is a plant that can be eaten in times of trouble.
It is said that the name “tsutsume kusa / tsume grass” came from its use as a stuffing material for Dutch ship’s luggage (geaman / glassware).
It came to Japan during the Meiji period (1868-1912), naturalized and became wild. The word “white clover” also appears in the theme song of Rascal the raccoon.
In Hokkaido, the indigenous Ainu people have an old legend about this clover flower,
Once upon a time, a young man, Appa, and his daughter, Iroha, were in love with each other.
One night, while on his way to Iroha, Appa’s boat was caught in a gust of wind in the middle of a swamp and sank.
The boat was tossed overboard and Appa tried his best to swim to Iroha, but he finally ran out of strength and drowned.
When the long-awaited Iroha arrived at the shore, she found Appa’s corpse, which had been transformed into a corpse. 、、、、、
Overwhelmed with grief, Iroha tied herself to her lover’s body and together they threw themselves into the swamp,
The next day, clover flowers were in full bloom on the banks of the swamp, as if to express their eternal love.

At the exhibition “INTO THE ANOTHER” in Hatagaya before the release of this work, I was talking about this patch with Sakamoto of TACOS UK,
He was able to tell all the differences in one shot, which shows that he is no ordinary person. He is a great guy.
