From Koenji! RANGE AND THE DIRTY HOSPITAL” is the first album of the biggest and craziest five-piece band in this century.

The album features 10 tracks of “mixed punk rock~hardcore party tunes” from the hardcore and Tokyo underground scene. Based on hardcore, miscellaneous elements are scattered throughout, but the tunes are thoroughly danceable! Mr. RANGE, the central figure of the band, says, “The stage may depict something like the movie “Rocky Horror Show” for me personally,” which means that there is no separation between the stage and the audience, everyone is the main character and everyone is a flower. ….

One of the most notable features of this album is that the lyrics written by Mr. RANGE have undergone a drastic change. He used to write lyrics that were full of venom and stood out from the crowd, but in this band, I was surprised to find that he wrote plain descriptions of ordinary everyday life. The precise and sharp funky beats by Shyam of the former SAMURAI, intertwined with the heavy rhythm section of Mr. Izawa and Mr. Doi, the unique trumpet of Mr. Shiraishi, and the guitar with a kind of psychedelic feel by Mr. RANGE, stagnate the air, and if their songs are carried there, the music will be a real “RANGE AND THE DOI”. RANGE AND THE DIRTY HOSPITAL’s hardcore party tune is complete. If I had to use a strong analogy, I would have guessed that they might have been baptized by the “Big Boys” of Texas, but they were probably not influenced by them at all. The band’s sound, which is inspired by their own original ideas, is a must-listen, but at the same time, it is hardcore with an interpretation that further expands the window of hardcore.

The treatment (arrangement) of the two cover songs at the end of the album is also excellent. The album also features a very strong cover of Rick Dillinger’s hit “ROCK AND ROLL, HOOCHIE KOO” and THE DAMNED’s “IDIOT BOX” (from their second album), which makes the most of the beautiful guitar arpeggio.
